The Aspartame Detox! Why you need Nature's Virtue
OK! You have spent a fortune over the years getting both sick and fat from aspartame-laced “diet” products, gums, drinks and other stuff… NOW WHAT?
Choice of Directions
There are countless suggested means of ridding the body of poisons. I am sure that they differ in approach and scope, depending upon the type of poisoning encountered. I shall attempt to accumulate a number of regimens for eliminating the body of the leftovers from aspartame consumption: methanol, formaldehyde, and formic acid. I doubt there is any residual methanol because the liver either converts it to formaldehyde, or formic acid. I am told that the body cannot effectively eliminate formaldehyde, and has a difficult time eliminating it. So some of it is combined with water and stored in the fat (i.e. weight gain) or further converted by the liver into formic acid. I am told that poisoning from methanol, formaldehyde and formic acid causes cumulative damage (it adds up) and at some point the victim gets some bad news. The damage varies in type and amount from victim to victim… from immediate seizures or migraines to being on the verge of death from unknown factors fifteen years later. Two of the three poisons, formaldehyde and formic acid, are said to be carcinogens. I doubt that anything can be done about any effects of the tumor agent called DKP (diketopiperazine).
What follows are as many different non-drug (i.e. natural) regimens for purging the body of these chemicals, and helping to repair the damage as I can find. I am not a medical doctor, herbologist, or any type of medical practitioner so all I can suggest is that you print out this WEB page, take it to a medical practitioner you trust, and formulate your own cleansing/renewal course of action. I neither recommend nor favor any over the other, because that is not my intent. I make no representations and therefore cannot accept either unsatisfactory or exemplary results. Common sense and help from those whom you trust in the medical community should prevail.
Should anyone know of additional suggested means of recovery from this type of poisoning, please let me know
First… please read a preliminary note.

Introduction
A great number of health problems can be attributed to exposure to toxins. Toxicity from foreign chemicals (excitoxins) can cause damage to almost all organs of the body. Symptoms include: fatigue, headaches, neurological disorders, chemical sensitivities, immune dysfunction, and liver disorders. Food is often the main source of toxins. There are approximately 3,000 chemicals used by the food industry during processing. There are approximately 12,000 chemicals used in food packaging materials. Pesticides found in 90% of foods. In addition to these external sources of toxins, the body also produces toxins called, endotoxins resulting from digestion, immune system functions, stress, etc. Endotoxins may also be produces as the result of food allergies and sensitivities. Increased intestinal permeability (leaky gut syndrome) can result in an increased absorption of exotoxins, endotoxins, antigens, and microorganisms. Candidiasis and intestinal microflora imbalances (dysbiosis), and parasitic infections increase the amount of toxins entering the circulation. Congestive bowel toxicity can greatly increase the amount of endotoxins produced. (see the “Congestive Bowel Toxicity” chapter).
Detoxification Pathways
Fat-soluble toxins are easily absorbed but poorly excreted. They may accumulate in the body and cause damage to tissues and organs. Fat-soluble (lipophilic) chemicals are converted to water-soluble chemicals by enzyme conversion in the liver in a two step process so they can be excreted. In the first phase the lipophilic chemicals are oxidized, reduced, or hydrolyzed by the enzymes cytochrome P-450 or monooxygenase. Monooxygenase is the primarily used. During this phase, free radicals and toxic compounds are produced which can cause damage to organs and tissues. Adequate antioxidants must be present to detoxify these intermediate (bioactivated) compounds produced in the initial detoxification phase. In the next phase the intermediate compounds undergo enzymic conjugation by reacting with methyl donors, sulfhydryl donors, and other conjugating agents. The major conjugation reactions are glucuronidation, glutathione conjugation, amino acid conjugation, sulfation, acetylation, and methylation. These conjugated compounds are less toxic, water-soluble, and easily excreted in the urine and bile.
Nutritional Support
The first step is to eliminate foods from the diet that create allergies or sensitivities. The second step is avoid foods that contain preservates, pesticides, saturated fats, red meats and other meats containing additives, saturated fats, sugar, refined carbohydrates, excessive salt, alcohol, and caffeine. Also avoid foods that are over processed. The third step is to take digestive enzymes with cooked foods (see the “Digestive Enzymes” chapter). Raw foods are best. The fourth step is to properly combine foods. Fruits should be eaten alone. Do not combine animal proteins with starches (rice, pasta, bread, potato). (see the “Food Combining” chapter). The fifth step is to avoid over-eating which can lead to digestive problems and congestive bowel toxicity. The sixth step is to drink uncontaminated water. Tap water should be filtered to remove lead, chlorine, other heavy metals, and bacteria. The seventh step is variety of diet. Food allergies and sensitivities can develop from specific foods eaten continuously. Specific foods should not be consumed continuously for more than four days. The eighth step is to reduce oxidative damage. Depletion of antioxidants can occur from tissue damage from disease, injury, exposure to environmental pollution, radiation exposure, chronic drug and alcohol use, antibiotic and non steroidal inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) overuse, excessive iron supplementation, intestinal dysbiosis, and intestinal pathogens. The ninth step is to re-establish proper intestinal flora. Supplementation with probiotics such as lactobacillus acidophilus and lactobacillus bifidus is important. Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) can help to re-establish a healthy bowel flora. The tenth step is to eliminate intestinal pathogens. Candidiasis is the most common pathogen, which results in the overgrowth of candida albicans. (see the “Candidiasis” chapter). The eleventh step is to prevent and/or eliminate congestive bowel toxicity. Dietary fiber contains soluble and insoluble compounds. Soluble fiber is fermented by the microflora of the colon and produce short chain fatty acids such as butyric acid. Butyric acid is used by the mucosa of the colon as its main source of fuel. Butyric acid is metaboliszed to glutamine which is an essenial fuel for the small intestines. A high fiber diet should be followed on a regular basis. The high fiber diet should be supplemented with “fresh” fruit or vegetables and fresh fruit and vegetable juices. Fresh juice is made fresh from fruits or fresh vegetables using a “juicer” machine and served within one hour of production. Psyllium, oat products, guar gum and fruits and vegetables are a good source of soluble fiber. Most plant foods are a good source of insoluble fiber. Dietary fiber also binds with endotoxins and help eliminate them though the bowels. Bentonite can be used to bind with endotoxins to prevent their absorption. The Twelfth step is a two week bowel cleansing. During the first week take: Aloe Vera resin, Olive Leaf extract, Cascara Sagrada, Cayenne, and Valarian root. Cascara Sagrada (rhamnus purshiana) promotes peristaltic action in the intestines. Cayenne (capsicum frutenscens) stimulates nerves of the stomach, promotes digestive secretions, and assists peristaltic motion. Valerian root (valeriana officinalis) is a strong nervine having a sedative effect, used as a tranquilizer but leaving one feeling refreshed rather than sluggish. In this formula, the valerian root is used to relax the muscles of the intestines. During the second week, add psyllium husks and activated charcoal.
Nutritional Supplementation
The ability of the liver to detoxify is determined by the availability of the appropriate nutrients and enzymes. An adequate supply of antioxidants is vitally important after the first phase of converting lipophilic toxins which produce free radicals. Reduced glutathione, superoxide dismutase, and catalase are the primary antioxidants used in the body to scavenge free radicals. Other antioxidants include: beta carotine, vitamin E, vitamin C, selenium, and N-acetylcysteine. Vitamin and mineral cofactors required for cytochrome P-450 reactions inlcude: riboflavin, niacin, magnesium, iron, and other trace minerals. Phytochemicals such as indoles from cruciferous vegetables and quercetin also help in the first phase of detoxification. Glutathione conjugation is the primary pathway for detoxification of intermediate (bioactivated) compounds. Supplementation with reduced L-glutathione and N-acetylcysteine increase levels of glutathione. Beta-glucuronidase is an enzyme produced by intestinal bacteria that reverses the glucuronidation reaction and releases previously conjugated toxins to be reabsorbed from the intestines. Calcium d-glucarate is a natural compound found in certain fruits and vegetables that inhibits microbial beta-glucuronidase production. Calcium d-glucarate is currently being investigated for its effects in preventing breast cancer in high risk women at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Other second phase conjugating agents include: amino acids such as glycine, cysteine, glutamine, methionine, taurine, glutamic acid, and asparatic acid. Vitamin, mineral, and protein deficiencies will decrease the activity of the detoxification pathways. Fats can promote the uptake of many chemical carcinogens. Olive oil and canola oil, (monounsaturated) have a neutral effect in promoting the uptake of carcinogens. The omega 3 polyunsaturated oils have a neutral effect in promoting the uptake of carcinogens. The omega 6 polyunsaturated oils have a postive effect in promoting the uptake of carcinogens. Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, and cabbage enhance the first phase of detoxification. They contain indoles such as indole-3-carbinol and indole-3-acetonitrile which increase monooxygenase activity. Plant flavonoids such as quercetin diminish the mutation of many carcinogens. This action probably occurs through the modulation of the cytochrome P-450 enzyme activation.

Stop Poisoning Our Kids!!!
what we do have on pharmaceutical companies using this poison in
their drugs, that I'm putting it on line again. Today they are
adding this poison to the very drugs used to treat the problems
aspartame causes. Whenever you take a prescription always be
reminded to ask the physician if it has aspartame in it. In the UK
industry got ahold of their supplement market, and now vitamins in
the UK contain aspartame. Look at these pediatric drugs with
aspartame, and children's over-the-counter vitamins. One child used
a Flintstone vitamin and was pronounced dead, and then revived in the
ER. The story was on Hardcopy which then got cancelled sometime
later. On that show also was a pilot who had a seizure on aspartame
but was still working on a ground job at Continental. After the show
the pilot lost his job.
You have to just learn to be a label reader on anything you
consume. Like Dr. H. J. Roberts says: "When in doubt throw it out"!!

A Letter from Dr. Betty Martini re: Aspartame
I wouldn't say I have the power to rescind the use of aspartame but we've definitely educated people the world over and brought down their sales, so help save the lives of millions from this addictive genetically engineered, excitoneurotoxic carcinogenic drug that interacts with virtually all drugs and vaccines due to damage to the mitochondria. We continue to work to get it off the market everyday and won't stop until its banned. I see you are writing about blood sugar and aspartame can precipitate diabetes, simulates and aggravates diabetic retinopathy and neuropathy, destroys the optic nerve, causes diabetics to go into convulsions and interacts with insulin. The free methyl alcohol causes them to lose limbs. Diabetic specialist, H. J. Roberts, M.D., wrote the medical text, Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic,
www.sunsentpress.com and you should get a copy for reference. When
you write about diabetes you have to mention aspartame because it has caused the diabetic epidemic and is killing them. The professional organizations including the American Diabetes Association who had suit filed against them for pushing it (even though they got out of
it) push it. Like Splenda has an ingredient making it very dangerous for diabetics or anyone for that matter because its a chlorocarbon poison. There is a safe sweetener called "Just Like Sugar". It has chicory in it which has been used for 70 years to improve the health of diabetes, as well as Vitamin C from organic oranges, Calcium and orange peel. Russell Blaylock, M.D., neurosurgeon wrote in the Blaylock Wellness Report three times: "Finally a safe
sweetener". I will send you a list of resources in another email
including the link to get the aspartame documentary, Sweet Misery: A Poisoned World.
We are a global volunteer force in 40 nations and the US and I work with the heroic experts on aspartame who write the papers you see on our web sites. My favorite quote is "Teamwork is the fuel that allows common people to accomplish uncommon results." It's a combination of these brilliant physicians and scientists, activists, truthful media, and victims that have got us where we are. I'm the founder of Mission Possible International dedicated to the proposition that disability and death are not acceptable costs of business. Stephen Fox, for instance, helps so much with legislation to ban aspartame and publishing. Every single victim and activist and Mission Possible organization has their own creative talents. Some are writers like you, some are physicians, and some are disabled victims of aspartame so horrified and angry that the FDA refused to recall aspartame to save their life, and give the facts, they tell everyone.
By exponentiation we grow by thousands everyday. They can't stop us, and in the end aspartame will be banned. We expose the shills, the front groups, the FDA and government agencies who lie as well as the professional organizations that defend the product because they receive funding.
All my best,
Betty

Taking Control of Your Blood Sugar
Today doctors are not only looking for warning signs such as age, family history but also waist-to-hip ratio, body mass index, blood pressure, cholesterol and triglycerides levels and stressors on the body. The development of diabetes has no symptoms, early detection is crucial. If you do have a family history you owe it to yourself to have your blood sugar checked regularly, eat a healthy diet and keep your weight intact. Research has found that you don’t necessarily have to have the genes to predispose you to pre-diabetes but it can be triggered by poor diet, lack of exercise and obesity. According to the American Diabetic Association, ADA, pre-diabetes develops before Type II Diabetes. This occurs when blood sugar levels are higher than normal but are not yet high enough to be diagnosed as Type II Diabetes. Long-term damage to the body, especially the heart and circulatory systems, may occur even during pre-diabetes. Pre-diabetes can be a silent disease, without taking preventative measures pre-diabetes can lead to Type II Diabetes, a deadly disease. The Diabetes Prevention Program has conclusively shown that people can prevent pre-diabetes by making changes in their diet and increasing their level of physical activity. So for those of you who thought like so many others that having to take control of your blood sugar level didn’t pertain to you, are you starting to see how it may definitely pertain to you and you need to take control of your diet and your weight?
The ADA estimates that more than 23 million Americans suffer from the disease, and 57 million more are at risk. Diabetes occurs when the body cannot produce insulin or cannot adequately utilize insulin. There are four types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes otherwise known as juvenile-onset diabetes, gestational diabetes or pregnancy induced diabetes, pre-diabetes and Type II Diabetes or adult onset diabetes. Monitoring of blood sugar levels through a simple lab test called a FBS, Fasting Blood Sugar, is the best way to determine if you are at risk.
Studies show that twenty percent of people with Type II Diabetes are lean and physically active but what happened to the other 80%, does that mean that the other 80% were obese? Very much so! The obesity trend has been reaching epidemic proportions in the United States. You just have to look around you to see how evident this is. Go to the food court in any mall across America and what do you see? From small children to teenagers to parents and grandparents most people today are larger than ever before. If trends continue, about one in three people born in 2000 will develop diabetes in his or her lifetime, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Bruce S. McEwen, who heads the neuro-endocrinology lab at Rockefeller University in New York and Dr. Joyce Lee, pediatric endocrinologist at the University of Michigan C.S. Matt Children’s Hospital are both concerned about the growing rate of obesity in the young. The implications of diabetes are not just for the elderly but for the growing number of overweight children and teens that are at risk of Type II Diabetes. Lee says, “Obesity increases your risk factor for developing diabetes. The longer you have it, the more likely you are to have serious problems – blindness, kidney problems, early heart disease.”
Doctors have now found that nearly half of all patients develop high blood sugar levels from the stress of undergoing heart surgery. “Stress Induced Hyperglycemia” requires temporary insulin treatment after their operation even if they have never had pre-diabetes or diabetes. Obese, older patients and those whose blood sugar remain high two days after their operation are most likely to need medication for days or even weeks after they leave the hospital. “Stress Induced Hyperglycemia” occurs when the body reacts to an assault such as surgery. Heart and vascular surgeons know that constant monitoring of the patient’s blood sugar during and after surgery is essential for overcoming surgical risks such as infection and death and for improved recovery time and proper healing to take place. According to Dr. Sima Saberi, the University of Michigan endocrinology fellow who spoke at an ADA Session stated that overweight patients especially those with a larger abdominal girth, excess belly fat, are more likely to have metabolic syndrome, which involves both increased cardiovascular risk and increased risk of diabetes. Due to the findings of patients undergoing cardiac and vascular surgery more physicians are starting to monitor patients undergoing other surgeries for example; hysterectomies.
Elevated blood sugar levels are also being linked with the brain and aging. Dr. Scott Small an associate professor of neurology at the Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer’s Disease and Aging has found that the area of the brain that is affected is within the hippocampus that helps form memories. These finding may help explain normal age-related cognitive decline, since glucose regulation worsens with age. People who exercise don’t have as many cognitive problems as they age because exercise helps stabilize blood sugar levels.
Understanding how your body is affected by what you eat is of the utmost of importance. A meal that consists only of protein and fats will not affect your blood sugar but a meal of carbohydrates, especially simple sugars will give you the highest spike. Simple sugars are foods like white potatoes, white rice, and refined sugar products including any foods or beverages containing high fructose corn syrup. When we eat a high carbohydrate meal or snack your body goes into action. Insulin is excreted by the pancreas as it tries to utilize the sugars into energy for your cells. The more sugary the snacks or sweets, the more your body can’t utilize the high levels of sugar leaving them freely floating through the blood stream. Spiking insulin levels put undue stress on your pancreas. As we age our insulin levels can’t keep up with this abuse opening us up to the beginning of diabetes.
When these sugars are free floating you gain weight but there are also studies by plastic surgeons and dermatologists showing that not only will you gain weight but sugars will also attach to protein fibers in collagen and produce compounds. These compounds have a negative effect on the skin. All of our hormones work in harmony with each other when one hormone, insulin, is off-balance it throws other hormones off-balance which in turn influences the release of the hormone androgen. Increased androgen production results in the excess secretion of oil in the skin. Skin becomes less resilient, causing wrinkling of the skin, and becomes more prone to acne.
The Diabetes Prevention Program based on a study by the National Diabetes Information Clearinghouse, concluded that a low-fat diet and moderate exercise reduce the risk of developing diabetes by 58% over three years. People who lose 7% of their body weight and do at least 2.5 hours of moderate exercise per week can even get their blood sugar levels back to normal. Taking immediate steps is necessary to not only preventing diabetes but all of the other devastating effects that diabetes can have on your body.
Make a habit to read food labels, look at the ingredients that are listed and remember the most predominate ingredients are listed first. Just say “NO” to refined and processed foods; manufactured foods. Stay away from densely sweetened high carbohydrate juice drinks which spike blood sugar levels. In developing Nature’s Virtue it was vital to have a blend that was so well-balanced it would prevent these spikes from ever occurring.
Parents it is time to change you’re eating and grocery shopping habits so your children will follow in your footsteps. We all need to get off the couch, start exercising and take the kids. Incorporate a healthy lifestyle, if each of us does our part we can we can put an end to the obesity trend and developing diabetes in our time.
Cutting Cancer Risk with Dietary Changes
One of the leading causes of death in the world is lung cancer. And yes, smoking is mostly responsible. There is convincing evidence that diets high in vegetables and fruits are protective against lung cancer and that compounds called carotenoids are probably responsible for some of this effect. Many vegetables and fruits contain vitamins A and C and beta carotene, such as dark green leafy vegetables, red, yellow and orange vegetables and fruits. Although, if you are a smoker and continue to smoke, all of the carotenoids or the use of antioxidant supplements in the world may not help you from either preventing or from the treatment of lung cancer. First and foremost, quit smoking!
The most common type of cancer in women in the world is breast cancer. Breast cancer is a cancer that not only affects women but can affect men too. There is an increased risk of breast cancer with factors that include familial tendencies, greater adult height and weight gain in adulthood. Much of the risk of developing breast cancer involves factors that influence estrogen levels during a woman's reproductive life, such as age of menarche (first period), number of pregnancies and breastfeeding practices. Obese post-menopausal women have more than twice the average risk of breast cancer. Diets high in mono-unsaturated fat like olive oil and high in vegetables and fruits containing vitamin A, vitamin C, and beta carotene may reduce the risk. Berries are good sources of vitamin C and fiber, as well as a wonderful substance called ellagic acid, which has been found in laboratory studies to prevent cancers of the skin, bladder, lung, esophagus and breast. Blueberries are particularly high in ellagic acid and are loaded with a class of anti-oxidants as powerful as any seen.
A very common cause of death in men is prostate cancer, especially in Australia. Vegetables may decrease the risk; while a high fat diet that comprises mostly animal fat sources (such as dairy products, fatty meats) may increase the risk. Lycopene, a potent antioxidant found in tomatoes, plays a leading role in the prevention of prostate cancer especially tomatoes that have been dehydrated. Dehydrated tomato compounds have been studied for preventing prostate cancer by scientists at the University of Missouri. These scientists have found that consuming tomatoes in powered form might be the best way to maximize protection against prostate cancer.
The fourth most common cancer in the world is bowel cancer, or colorectal cancer. Up to 70 percent of cases can be prevented by following a healthy lifestyle. Physical activity and a diet high in vegetables and fiber are protective. Fiber moves cancer-causing compounds out of the body before they can create harm. It is also thought to dilute potential carcinogens, and may affect hormone production, thus lowering the incidence of hormone-related cancers like breast and prostate cancers. The National Cancer Institute recommends 20-30 grams of fiber per day. Great sources of fiber come not only in whole grains but in fruits, legumes and cruciferous vegetables. Some whole grains to look for are barley, oats, oat bran, and nuts. Apples, bananas, blackberries, citrus fruits, pears, and prunes are fibrous fruits. Legumes like lima, kidney, pinto, and navy beans, peas, chick peas, black-eyed peas, and especially lentils these are all high in fiber. Beans contain several chemicals that boost immunity to cancer. Those chemicals show the ability to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in different tissues and slow the growth of tumors. Include cruciferous vegetables Brussels sprouts, carrots, tomatoes, kale, Swiss chard, bok choy and broccoli on a daily basis. Substances in these vegetables have shown the ability to stop the growth of cancer cells in laboratory studies, particularly by regulating a complex system of enzymes that provide a good line of cancer defense. Some studies have correlated colorectal cancer with consumption of red meat, especially high-fat meats. Cut down your portion sizes to 3–5 ounces a day or less is beneficial in reducing that risk. A simple way is to base the amount of meat according to these proportions. Aim for 2/3 (or more) fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and beans, and 1/3 (or less) animal protein on your plate. Instead of red meat, choose white meat such as chicken or turkey.
Many studies now show that the combination of alcohol consumption and cigarette smoking has a synergistic effect; together they are more likely to cause cancer than either of them separately.
A twenty-year study called the Nurses Study, conducted by Harvard University; showed saturated fats were correlated with a higher incidence of endometrial cancer. The primary source of saturated fat is animal products, such as meat, whole-fat milk and milk products, and eggs. Trans-fats, otherwise known as hydrogenated oils, come from heating vegetable oils, and are found mainly in commercially prepared baked goods, fried foods, margarines, snack foods, and processed foods. A bag of Doritos has 40% chemicals, ranch flavored chips contain high levels of MSG. They are all made with pro-carcinogenic oils and high amounts of sugar, methionine, and food additives.
Most chips are cooked in omega-6 oils so you get a concentration of cancer-stimulating additives and ingredients. These foods which are also high on the glycemic index release and promote cancer growth. A high glycemic diet can cause you to gain weight and can lead to obesity. Obesity it is a known cause of kidney, pancreatic, and oral/esophageal cancers. A high fat diet contributes to a high population of free radicals since fat cells split apart easily.
Studies indicate that if you have a healthy lifestyle your chances of not getting cancer are increased to 70%. Increasing your daily consumption of fruits and vegetables and reduce unhealthy dietary fats. It is recommended that you limit fat to 30 percent or less of your caloric intake. However, according to the Harvard School of Public Health, studies have shown that what is most important is not the amount of fat in the diet, per se, but the type of fat. Thus, the latest advice is to cut out the unhealthy fats – saturated fats and trans-fats. If we stop using chemicals, if we stop eating junk food and chemically laden foods and start consuming the foods that nature has provided, we would all be much healthier.
Making healthy choices can be your first line of defense against cancer besides from early detection is what can make the difference of determining if cancer treatment is more likely to be successful. Regular screening and self-examination may not prevent cancer, but it can increase your chances of discovering cancer early and that could save your life. Screening should include your skin, mouth, colon and rectum. If you're a man, it should also include your prostate and testes. If you're a woman, include cervix and breast cancer screening. Know your body well, be in tune with it. If you notice any changes, see your doctor. If you are not happy with the opinion of that doctor there is nothing wrong with getting a second or even third opinion. Do your research, be informed of every option available to you and have peace of mind that you did everything you could; that you did your homework. Love and take good care of your body, when you do your body will give back to you ten-fold.
Just think of the opportunities we can give our children and our grandchildren by just changing how we think about the choices we make. By eating a well-balanced diet, maintaining other healthy habits like exercising and eliminating tobacco and reducing your consumption of alcohol you can reduce your risk of cancer. Make a habit of reading package labels, it’s vital. Stop eating on the run and grabbing the first food you see. Think first before you put those Doritos into mouth!
Fight Cancer With Good Nutrition
With all of our knowledge and all of the scientific breakthroughs we still have not found a cure for this debilitating illness. Why do doctors continue to be baffled and why does the treatment have to be so horrific? Cancer is a word no one wants to hear. The treatment alone can kill and can be draining on your system, so much so that many people opt to not have treatment at all. We have not even mentioned the costs associated with cancer treatment which can be astronomical. The “standard of care” consists of body altering surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation. Chemotherapy infuses poisoning chemicals that destroys the immune system and despite how sick they make you feel the cancer can grow so rapidly that your immune system never gets a chance to repair itself. If we know that ingesting chemically laden foods and breathing chemically laden air can cause cancer why would we want to put additional chemicals into our body in order to cure it? Two to five percent of the 350,000 people a year who undergo in-hospital chemotherapy treatments die as a direct result of the toxicity from the treatment itself. That’s 7000 to 17,500 people too many. Twenty one percent of patients receiving high-dose chemo die as a complication of the treatment. You or a loved one could be part of this statistic.
Don’t become a statistic! We need to get to the root of this evil before it strikes. Cancer can be a merciless adversary. One way that we can inhibit it and even stop it in its tracts is to keep our bodies as clean as possible. Clean by consuming the right foods and keep our bodies as free of toxins as we possibly can. Toxins cause irritation. Free radical damage is what occurs as a result of constant irritation in our body. These free radicals tear at the cell’s membrane, and in some cases, damage the cell’s DNA structure. When the DNA structure is interfered with, mutation can occur, which leads to the formation and growth of cancerous cells.
According to Dr. Russell Blaylock “The typical Western diet, high in red meats, bad fats, food additives and carbohydrates is a perfect cancer brew”.
Fighting cancer is a war and it involves life-style choices and changes of old habits. Changing old habits is never easy but it can be simple. This quote from Dr. Khalid Mahmud makes a lot of sense “Eat God-made foods, not man-made foods”. Remember the old adage, KISS (keep it simple, stupid) these words of wisdom can protect you from the ravages of cancer by just making a few simple changes in your everyday diet. According to Dena McDowell, MS, RD, for the Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center agrees that eating the right foods actually helps prevent cancer. "There is a strong connection between what you eat and whether you develop cancer in your lifetime," says McDowell. The American Cancer Society Nutrition Guidelines calls for a diet that is as plant-based as possible.
Studies indicate that people who eat a lot of fruits and vegetables have much lower cancer rates than those who eat few or none. Vegetarian’s have the highest cancer immunity and have about half the cancer risk of meat-eaters.
Start with eating at a minimum of five but on average seven to nine servings of fruits and vegetables each day. As you continue to change you’re eating habits your taste buds will change and good nutritious healthy foods will taste better to you than chemically laden, poor quality foods.
Eating foods that contain ample nutrients have been shown to prevent cancer. The damaging effects of free-radicals are minimized by nutrients known as anti-oxidants. These include Vitamins A, C, and E, calcium and vitamin D, the B vitamins and folic acid, the minerals selenium and zinc and beta carotene. The higher the amount of antioxidants you consume the better. A unit of measurement that defines the antioxidant value of foods is called ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity).
Use healthy fats such as olive oil and omega-3 fatty acids that are found in fish and green plant food sources, especially spinach, flaxseeds, mustard greens and algae’s. Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to have an anti-carcinogenic effect in the laboratory.
Fruits and vegetables are rich sources of anti-oxidants that quench free radicals. They contain bioflavonoids (plant chemicals) that have anti-cancer properties, bioflavonoids turn on phase II enzymes that rid our body of cancer-causing toxins. Fruits and vegetables also contain fiber that binds the toxins excreted into the intestines, these toxins are then not absorbed back into the system. Studies indicate that people who eat a lot of fruits and vegetables have much lower cancer rates than those who eat few or none. Vegetarian’s have the highest cancer immunity and have about half the cancer risk of meat-eaters. Scientists have learned that various components of plants (phytonutrients) can attack cancer cells at all levels but at the same time have no harmful effect on normal cells. These phytonutrients strengthen normal cells so that toxins or free radicals cannot affect those cells preventing cells from becoming cancerous. This is especially important in preventing secondary cancers that can be created in the wake of chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
Turmeric is the spice most often used in curry powder. It has an active ingredient called curcumin that has shown resistance to colon, breast, liver, oral, skin, and stomach tumors in laboratory testing on animals.
Yogurt with live probiotic cultures consumed in high quantities has been linked in some population studies to reduced risks of cancer, particularly of the breast and colon.
Green Tea is the best source of catechins in the human diet, containing about three times as many catechins as there are in black tea. The catechins found in tea selectively inhibit specific enzyme activities that lead to cancer and may also repair cellular damage caused by free radicals. Green tea has been shown to inhibit or block cancer development in colon, liver, breast, and prostate cells. Studies done in Asia show that frequent use of green tea can lower the risk of many common cancers including the recurrence of stage 1 breast cancer.
Grapes, especially red and purple varieties, contain high levels of resveratrol, which belongs to a classification of plant chemicals called polyphenols. Resveratrol has been shown to slow the growth of cancer cells and inhibit the formation of tumors in lymph, liver, stomach and breast.
Variety is certainly the spice of life. Pay attention to the colors of the fruits and vegetables you choose—green, red, yellow, orange, purple, blue, and white—as nature has imbued each with unique nutrients and phytochemicals that deliver a more complete nutritional benefit when consumed together. Think of assembling a rainbow of colors on your plate; it’s more pleasing to the eye and will give you a good balance of phytonutrients at each meal. I created NV so that we all could have a rainbow of essential fruits, vegetables, fiber, probiotics, turmeric, phytochemicals, carotenoids, ellagic acid, resveratrol, and antioxidants. NV has an ORAC value of 6880 per serving, that’s huge! NV has all the essential nutrients needed to prevent the onset of cancer.
Dr. Steve Nelson of the Synergy Wellness Clinic states that “If people don’t supplement, consume a nutritious diet, apply homeopathic therapies and pay attention to their bodies they are going to continue to get sick”. No one knows for sure if cancers are ever eradicated in your body. Sticking to a nutritious diet and supplementing with NV is so important since a dormant cancer can be reactivated by a bad diet. If we start right now we can improve our chances of having a healthy future.
Wouldn’t it be nice if future generations could say “once upon a time people got cancer” like we think of the black plague? The time is now to make that a reality.
Free radicals,
Could Your Vitamins be Killing You?
Billions are being spent annually on vitamin and mineral supplements. It can also be argued that never in history has so much money been spent on the advertising and purchasing of any merchandise, with so little knowledge of the product itself, on the part of either the seller or the buyer,
Most consumers and even salespeople know the difference between a synthetic, a crystalline, and a truly natural whole food vitamin.
I feel that the following information is essential for you to read and hope that it will provide you with enough information and clinical evidence so that you can make an educated decision on the health and well being of you and your family members.
“You can trace every ailment, every sickness and every disease to a vitamin and mineral deficiency.” Dr. Linus Pauling, renowned scientist and two time Nobel Prize Winner
Chronic conditions like cancer and heart disease take decades to develop. So do wrinkles and fuzzy brains. The core foundation of how Young you feel, how much Energy you have, how healthy you remain and are able to function all starts with proper nutrition.
Research through numerous scientific studies have conclusively shown that proper daily nutrition when coupled with daily exercise, as simple as walking, promotes the very essence of how well you feel, and as you age your body’s ability to prevent, ward off, and minimize diseases such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.
Lester Packer, Ph.D., a molecular and cell biologist at the University of California at Berkeley, after many years of research, worries that more than 70 percent of people will die prematurely from diseases caused by or compounded by deficiencies of antioxidants. But starting young – in your 20’s, 30’s and 40’s – can help keep your body youthful and disease-free instead of in need of repair later. Antioxidants are also called phytochemicals and/or phytonutrients and carotenoids.
NUTRITIONALLY, WHAT EXACTLY IS HAPPENING TO US?
We are the direct product of what we eat and the lifestyles we have elected to live. Granted, there are diseases that are passed along to us genetically, but even in those instances through proper nourishment and lifestyle changes, we can greatly reduce our risk of premature illness and death causing diseases.
In the 1980’s, a study was conducted in the United States by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Using 50,000 people, it was found that not a single person was getting the recommended amounts of the 10 essential vitamins required for normal health.
For years you have been advised to look to the food pyramid, which recommends that you eat at least 3-5 servings of vegetables and 2-4 servings of fruits daily. Sadly, the vast majority of us, and you know who you are, fall woefully short of these guidelines. The problem is we can’t eat the volume of food it would require. More than 90 percent of people don’t eat the recommended daily servings of fruits and vegetables. Even if we did, food today doesn’t have the vitamins and minerals that they had 40 or 50 years ago. In those days farmers restored the soil by mulching, using natural fertilizers and rotating crops. Today, extensive use of chemical substances depletes the soil of many of the essential elements needed for adequate nutrition…giving us a supply of beautiful products that look great, but don’t have the vitamins and other important nutrients we think they should have and, not near the vitamin, mineral and other essential nutrients (phytochemicals) they had 50 years ago.
Another problem is that most vitamins and other valuable nutrients are lost in processing. Cooking and freezing dramatically reduce vitamins, nutrients and food value. Added to this problem, are the presences of flavor enhancers, artificial colors, stabilizers and chemical food preservatives. Additionally, studies show that the nutrient value of our food is continually decreasing due to more air pollutants and less oxygen.
Additionally, mainstream marketing of supplemental vitamins and minerals has successfully created the myth that vitamins and minerals may be isolated from each other, that correct amounts may be measured out, and then we can derive total benefit from taking these fractionated chemical (synthetic) creations. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Vitamins and minerals, and also enzymes, work closely together as co-factors for each other’s efficacy. If one part is missing, or in the wrong form or the wrong amount, entire chains of metabolic processes will not proceed normally. Result: a downward spiraling of health, probably imperceptible for long periods of time.
SO WHAT’S THE ANSWER?
The dilemma we are faced with is; if we cannot get all of the nutrients we need through diet alone then how do we get them? We get them by taking supplements…but the right kind of supplements.
“We now have a substantial body of data showing that if everyone took a few supplements every day, they could significantly lower their risk of a multitude of serious diseases.” David Heber, M.D., Ph.D., of the Center for Human Nutrition at UCLA
While you may think that you have filled this need, you may be getting little benefit from using the vitamin & mineral supplements available today. Studies show that 90 percent of vitamin pills pass through your body unabsorbed! This is primarily due to the fact that most all vitamin & mineral supplements contain nothing but laboratory developed synthetic ingredients. Natural ingredients are more effectively used by your body which is designed to reject synthetic and foreign substances.
Your synthetic, fractionated chemical vitamin never grew in the ground, never saw the light of day, and never was alive or part of anything alive. It’s a chemical. In your body it’s just another drug. Synthetic vitamins have toxic effects in mega-doses and actually can increase the white blood cell count. Vitamins are only necessary in minute quantities on a daily basis. Whole food vitamins, by contrast, are not toxic and trigger no immune response.
Whole food vitamins are obtained by taking a vitamin-rich plant, removing the water and the fiber in a cold vacuum process, otherwise known as freeze–drying, free of chemicals, and then packaged for stability. The entire vitamin complex in this way can be captured intact, retaining its “functional and nutritional integrity.” Upon ingestion, the body is not required to draw on its own reserves in order to complete any missing elements from the vitamin complex.
“We have yet to improve on what Mother Nature has given us to eat. Foods simply cannot be artificially duplicated in the science laboratory.” Gabriel Clousens, M.D.
Examples from clinical tests conducted in Finland and reported in the New England Journal of Medicine.
• 25 mg of Vitamin C in its natural whole-food form will cure scurvy but, 250 mg of synthetic vitamin C (ascorbic acid) will not!
• “Saltwater” can be synthesized in a laboratory, but when you put a fish in it the fish dies.
WHAT OCCURS IN THE BODY WHEN YOU INGEST SYNTHETIC VITAMINS OVER A PERIOD OF TIME?
Most people are not aware that most vitamins are processed at high temperature, contain petroleum derived chemical solvents, such as coal tar derivatives and ethyl cellulose and are coated with methylene chloride, a carcinogenic material. These sources are not living foods but dead chemicals and over a period of extended use can be potentially dangerous.
According to Dr. Zoltan P. Rona, M.D., “Although most healthy people will have no obvious side effects from ingesting small amounts of toxins found in most vitamins, the long-term consequences of continuous, daily intakes are potentially dangerous.” Dr. Rona says that reactions include fatigue, memory loss, depression, insomnia and potential liver disorders.
A recent Finnish study published in the New England Journal of Medicine states that “taking synthetic vitamins is worse than starvation! The synthetic vitamins will kill you quicker.” Admittedly, this statement is a bit aggressive, but does show the emphasis the researchers wanted to make regarding the potential health danger of using synthetic vitamins.
Living systems are very complex and specific in their need for building materials. In addition, living systems are constantly breaking down cells, organs and tissues, and rebuilding and repairing themselves. For these processes, the body must have a continual supply of specific, high-quality materials.
If you build a house with cheap, imitation construction materials, your house will quickly fall into disrepair. The same is true for the physical body. The body has a very precise design, which is so incredibly intricate and complex that even with all the scientific and medical research thus far; we have only scratched the surface of understanding it.
The following examples are a handful of hundreds that could be given to illustrate this point:
• Reported on April 14, 1994 in the New England Journal of Medicine was a study in which 29,000 male smokers were given synthetic beta-carotene and synthetic Vitamin E to evaluate the cancer-protective effect of the “vitamins”. After 10 years, the men taking the synthetic beta carotene had an 18% higher rate of lung cancer, more heart attacks, and an 8% higher overall death rate. Those taking Synthetic Vitamin E had more strokes. Food sources of these same nutrients, such as fruits, and vegetables, consistently demonstrate protection against cancer, heart attacks and stroke.
• On November 23, 1995, the following was reported in The New England Journal of Medicine. 22,748 pregnant women were given synthetic Vitamin A. After four years the study was halted because of a 240% increase in birth defects in babies of women taking 10,000 IU daily, and a 400% increase in birth defects in babies of women taking 20,000 IU a day. Women eating natural food sources of Vitamin A showed no increase in birth defects.
• Reported in Reuters Health, March 3, 2000 was a study of men who took 500 mg of synthetic Vitamin C daily. It was found that over an 18-month period, these men had a 250% increase of the intima-media lining (inner lining) of the carotid artery. This thickening is an accurate measurement for the progression of atherosclerosis. That is, synthetic Vitamin C induced atherosclerosis, even at 500 mg dose. Whole food Vitamin C protects and repairs the inner lining of blood vessels, and is preventative against atherosclerosis.
WHAT IS BEST FOR ME?
Using years of research and clinical data published by the National Cancer Institute, American Heart Association, USDA and the International Food Information Council Foundation, the American Diabetic Association and countless medical studies we need to keep our bodies free of refined and processed food, eliminate high fructose and artificial sweeteners . We need to consume a “Rainbow” of fruits and vegetables to get as much color variety in your diet as possible, so that you can maximize your intake of a broad range of nutrients. The colors of fruits and vegetables are a small clue as to what vitamins and nutrients are included. By getting a variety of different colored fruits and vegetables, you are guaranteed a diverse amount of naturally created essential vitamins and minerals. Choose grains, fruits and vegetables that are grown in deep mineral rich, alluvial soils without the use of pesticides, herbicides and fungicides…there’re grown as mother-nature intended.
The Choice is yours
110 companies sell vitamins in the United States. Less than 5 of them use whole food vitamins. The reason is simple: whole food vitamins are expensive to make. A few of the largest pharmaceutical firms in the world mass produce synthetic vitamins for the vast majority of these 110 “vitamin” companies, who then put their own label on them, and every company claims theirs is the best! Americans spend over $9 billion per year for synthetic vitamins and our health is worse now than it’s ever been…something is wrong….it’s called synthetics!
Don’t you think it’s time for a change?
